System Upgrade and Website Changes

On 10/15/2009 we launched a major upgrade to the website. We have upgraded from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6. The upgrade will allow us to add many features to the site that we couldn't before, but there are also some drawbacks.

For the bad news, we were unable to transfer the user profiles and members from the old site. We attempted to bring these over several times without success. For this we are sorry and hope users will continue to make profiles on the site in the future. This won't happen again since the upgrade path to Drupal 7 will be much easier.

The good news is that the upgrade will allow us to do the following:

  • The site runs much faster now and executes search queries in a shorter amount of time
  • We will soon be adding Facebook Connect functionality so users will be able to log-in to the site with their Facebook information.
  • We will be generating RDF versions of the pages on this site to allow access to our database of schools to improve other websites.
  • There will be numerous other upgrades coming and we will post these updates as they happen.
